About the Are to Hectare Converter

The are to hectare converter works within the metric land system. An are is 100 m² (a 10 m × 10 m square) and a hectare is 100 ares, or 10,000 m². Hectares are the standard unit for farmland and forests worldwide, while ares are still used for smaller plots in parts of Europe. Because the factor is exactly 100, the conversion is just a shift of the decimal point.

How to use it

  1. 1Enter the amount in ares.
  2. 2The equivalent in hectares appears instantly.
  3. 3Press the ⇌ button to convert from hectares back to ares.

How it works

Are vs Hectare

Both units are derived from the square metre. 1 are = 100 m². 1 hectare = 100 ares = 10,000 m². The hectare (ha) is the standard SI-accepted unit for large-scale land measurement.

Formula

Hectares = Ares ÷ 100

Ares = Hectares × 100
