About the On Base Percentage Calculator

The on-base percentage calculator measures how often a batter reaches base. OBP = (hits + walks + hit-by-pitch) ÷ (at-bats + walks + hit-by-pitch + sacrifice flies). Because it counts walks, it captures plate discipline that batting average misses, and it is half of the OPS statistic.

How to use it

  1. 1Enter hits, walks and hit-by-pitches.
  2. 2Enter at-bats and sacrifice flies.
  3. 3Press Calculate to see the OBP.

Worked example

150 hits, 60 walks and 5 HBP in 500 at-bats with 5 sacrifice flies give 215 ÷ 570 ≈ .377.

How it works

Formula

OBP = (H + BB + HBP) ÷ (AB + BB + HBP + SF)

Common use cases

  • Evaluating lead-off hitters
  • Comparing batters beyond average
  • Building a batting order

Frequently asked questions
