About the Batting Average Calculator
The batting average calculator divides a batter’s hits by official at-bats. Batting average is the oldest headline hitting statistic in baseball and is written as a three-digit decimal, so .300 means three hits in every ten at-bats. Walks, hit-by-pitches and sacrifices are not at-bats, which is why on-base percentage is often used alongside it.
How to use it
- 1Enter the number of hits.
- 2Enter official at-bats (exclude walks, hit-by-pitch and sacrifices).
- 3Press Calculate to see the average.
Worked example
45 hits in 150 at-bats is 45 ÷ 150 = .300, which is generally considered a very good average.
How it works
Formula
BA = Hits ÷ At Bats
Example
45 hits in 150 at bats = 45 ÷ 150 = .300
Common use cases
- Tracking a player’s season
- Comparing hitters on a team
- Checking scorebook totals
