About the Gallon to Pound Converter
The gallon to pound converter estimates how much a volume of liquid weighs. It multiplies US gallons by the density of the liquid you choose, because a gallon of honey weighs almost twice as much as a gallon of gasoline. Densities are typical values at room temperature and vary slightly with temperature and composition.
How to use it
- 1Choose gallons → pounds or pounds → gallons.
- 2Enter the amount and select the liquid.
- 3Read the estimated weight or volume.

Worked example
a US gallon of water at 20 °C weighs about 8.35 lb, so a 5-gallon jug of water weighs roughly 41.7 lb. A gallon of gasoline weighs about 6.07 lb.
How it works
Formula
Pounds = US Gallons × Density (lb/gal)
Why density matters
Honey weighs about 11.65 lb/gal while gasoline weighs only 6.07 lb/gal. Always select the correct liquid.
Common use cases
- Estimating load weight for vehicles and trailers
- Shipping liquids
- Recipes and brewing
