About the Kilogram to Gallon Converter
The kilogram to gallon converter works out the volume of a known mass of liquid. It divides the mass by the liquid’s density, so the result depends on what you are measuring: 1 kg of water is about 0.264 US gallons, while 1 kg of olive oil takes up more space because oil is less dense. Densities are typical values at room temperature.
How to use it
- 1Choose kilograms → gallons or gallons → kilograms.
- 2Enter the amount and select the liquid.
- 3Read the converted value.
- 4Copy, share or print the result with the buttons below it.
Worked example
10 kg of water ÷ 3.785 kg per gallon ≈ 2.64 US gallons.
How it works
Formula
Gallons = Kilograms ÷ Density (kg/gal)
Density of water
Water at 20°C: density ≈ 1 kg/L = 3.785 kg/gal. Density decreases slightly with temperature.
Common use cases
- Converting bulk liquid orders
- Estimating tank fill levels from weight
- Lab and industrial calculations
Frequently asked questions
A:At 20°C, 1 kg of water = 0.2642 US gallons ≈ 1 litre.
A:Volume and mass are related by density (mass = volume × density). Different liquids have different molecular masses and packing, so their densities vary significantly.
