About the Healthy Weight Calculator
The healthy weight calculator shows the weight range that corresponds to a healthy body mass index for your height. The World Health Organization classifies a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 as a healthy weight for adults, so the tool multiplies those two values by your height in metres squared. The result is a range rather than one number, which better reflects normal differences in build. BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat and does not apply to children, pregnant women or highly muscular people, so use it alongside other measures such as waist circumference.
How to use it
- 1Enter your height in centimetres (multiply inches by 2.54 to convert).
- 2Press Calculate to see the weight range for a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9.
Worked example
at 175 cm tall (1.75 m), the healthy range is 18.5 × 1.75² ≈ 56.7 kg to 24.9 × 1.75² ≈ 76.3 kg.
How it works
How it works
The range comes from the healthy BMI band: weight = BMI × height(m)² for BMI 18.5 and 24.9.
Who it is for
Adults setting a weight goal and anyone checking whether their weight is in the healthy range for their height.
Why it helps
A range gives a realistic target and avoids chasing a single “ideal” number.
Common use cases
- Setting a realistic weight-loss or weight-gain goal
- Checking your current weight against the healthy range
Frequently asked questions
