About the Bike Size Calculator
The bike size calculator estimates a suitable frame size from your inseam (inside-leg length) and the type of bike. Road frames are about 0.67 × inseam and mountain-bike frames about 0.66 × inseam. Manufacturers measure frames differently, so use the result as a starting point and check the brand’s own size chart or a test ride.
How to use it
- 1Measure your inseam barefoot, from floor to crotch.
- 2Enter it in centimetres and choose the bike type.
- 3Press Find Frame Size.
Worked example
an 81 cm inseam suggests a road frame of about 54 cm (81 × 0.67).
How it works
Formula
Road frame (cm) = Inseam × 0.67. Mountain frame (cm) = Inseam × 0.66.
Common use cases
- Buying a new or used bike online
- Checking whether a bike fits
- Comparing bike types
Frequently asked questions
A:Stand against a wall, place a book between your legs at crotch height, and measure from the book's top to the floor.
A:No — saddle height, reach, handlebar height, and cleat position all affect fit. A professional bike fit is recommended.
A:Road bike frames are measured center-to-top; mountain bike frames are often measured in S/M/L. Sizing formulas differ slightly.
A:If between sizes, taller riders or those preferring a stretched position should size up; shorter torso or comfort riders should size down.
A:A bike that is too large causes back strain, poor handling, and difficulty braking. Always ride the correct size.
