About the E-Bike Range Calculator
The e-bike range calculator estimates how far a battery will take you. Range = battery capacity (Wh) ÷ energy used per kilometre, adjusted for the assist mode: higher assist uses more energy and shortens the range. Hills, wind, rider weight, tyre pressure and cold weather also reduce range.
How to use it
- 1Enter battery capacity in watt-hours (printed on the battery).
- 2Enter typical consumption in Wh/km (around 10–20).
- 3Choose the assist mode and press Calculate.
Worked example
a 500 Wh battery at 15 Wh/km gives about 500 ÷ 15 ≈ 33 km before adjusting for assist mode.
How it works
Formula
Range (km) = Battery (Wh) ÷ Effective Consumption (Wh/km). Assist mode multiplies base consumption.
Common use cases
- Planning longer e-bike rides
- Comparing batteries
- Commuting estimates
Frequently asked questions
A:Most e-bikes have 400–625 Wh batteries; some performance models reach 750+ Wh.
A:In Eco mode (~10 Wh/km effective), a 500 Wh battery provides ~50 km. In Turbo mode (~25 Wh/km effective): ~20 km.
A:Headwinds, hills, heavy rider weight, cold temperatures, and high assist modes all reduce range significantly.
A:Most e-bike batteries last 500–1,000 charge cycles, equivalent to 3–5 years of regular use.
A:For longevity, many manufacturers recommend charging to 80–90% for regular rides and 100% only when needed.
