About the Calories Burned Calculator

The calories burned calculator covers more than 50 sports and activities, from running and swimming to tennis and martial arts. It multiplies the activity’s MET value from the Compendium of Physical Activities by your weight and the time spent. MET values are averages, so the result is an estimate of typical effort.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose the activity.
  2. 2Enter your weight in kilograms.
  3. 3Enter the duration and press Calculate.

Worked example

a 70 kg person playing a 60-minute basketball game (about 8 METs) burns roughly 8 × 70 × 1 = 560 kcal.

How it works

Formula

Calories = MET × Weight (kg) × Duration (hours)

Common use cases

  • Comparing sports by calorie burn
  • Logging workouts
  • Planning energy intake around training

Frequently asked questions
